...but dang, that side yard is looking good! For those of you who want Before pictures, just haul out any you may have had from before. It hasn't changed much. For those of you who want After pictures, I'm still not sure I'm going to survive the yard work, much less take pictures of it. But I promise I shall crawl off of my unbelievably sore backside soon to attempt documentation. 'Cause I know there are few out there who might not believe that we're really making progress.

It feels good to get the weeding done, and because we have more weeds than space in garbage cans, we're getting de facto compost heaps. The major difference between these heaps and previous years' heaps is that we know what's coming and we're putting all the little heaps into one big one where it can do the most good. Also I can put a soaker hose on it come July 4 and I'll be able to sleep well through the night, unlike previous years. I am looking forward to that in ways you can't possibly imagine unless you live under a wood-shake roof.
I'm having to contemplate arboralicide, a.k.a. the immediate planned demise of a tree. I have no idea what they are, they were here when we moved in, and they are weed trees. Which is to say, once they establish themselves they are on the order of wild bermuda grass to get rid of. I was all right with the ones that we got with the house but when a volunteer decided to pop up right off the back patio (and by right off, I mean within inches) enough was enough. They're fast growers so I had a tree taller than myself by the time I got around to attempting to dig it up. When I did I found that it was NOT a volunteer, but a sucker coming off of a horizontal root that is as big around as my wrist. No, that isn't an exaggeration. It's going right under the foundation of the house and I'm wondering what the best course of action would be. I can't leave it there because I know what vegetation can do to cement and it looks like it might have gone straight under the foundation and into the septic system in the front yard. Do I need that sort of headache right now...or come to think of it, ever? HA. I'm thinking about digging out a section several feet long and cutting it completely out. There isn't a hope in hades that it will kill the parent tree.

That sounds like my Robinia Pseusocacia, it set it's roots over all the neighborhood, just like those unkillable morning glories. I can see a big one when I am on the hill watering tomatoes. I am NOT saying that is what you have, just that I know what it is like having to deal with it.
